Garden Life


Garden Life is a leader in the garden advice industry, sharing scientific breakthroughs and new gardening ideas. The radio show is hosted by Bryan Main, John Bagnasco & Sharon Asakawa.

Bryan Main
As a San Diego native, Bryan Main has worked in the Radio & Television industry for 34 years.
Graduating from Northern Arizona University, Bryan began his work as a “D.J.” for KAFF & KFGL radio in Flagstaff, Arizona.
Bryan then moved back to San Diego working as a “Radio Personality” & Production Director for KSON & KYXY.
Currently, he is the Production Coordinator for Clear Channel Radio San Diego, overseeing the day-to- day operation of 7 radio stations.
In addition, Bryan is the Public Address Announcer for the San Diego State University Aztec Football, & Basketball teams. He has also been the voice of the Holiday Bowl since 1989 and the Poinsettia Bowl since 2024.

He has also worked as the backup P.A. announcer for the San Diego Chargers. “Voice Overs” & Production for local commercial radio and television networks take up most of his time during the week.

Along with his many duties, Bryan can be heard on the “Garden Life” radio show heard on the “Business Talk Radio Network” every Sunday morning from 11- AM-1:00-PM Eastern. He lives in San Diego Ca. with his son Eric.

John Bagnasco
John Bagnasco is a graduate of Michigan State University with a degree in horticultural marketing. He has been in the gardening industry for over 35 years starting at Frank’s Nursery and Crafts in Detroit where he was a buyer and asst. Director of Marketing. After publishing his first book in 1976, Plants for the Home Vol. I, he moved to California and took a position as buyer and regional manager for the Nurseryland division of Sunbelt Nursery Group. Bagnasco then became the head buyer for Armstrong Garden Centers based in Glendora, CA.

He had a 10-year part-time affiliation with Creative Promotions before joining them full-time in Oct. 2024 as senior editor and radio personality for Garden Compass. Bagnasco has also taught horticulture classes at Palomar College and San Diego State University. He is the host of the DVD, The Essential Guide to Roses, which also features Bryan Main and Bruce and Sharon Asakawa.

As an amateur rose breeder, John has now introduced about a dozen varieties to the marketplace. He is responsible for the Little Rascal series that now includes, Spanky, Darla, Alfalfa and Buckwheat. A special interest in polyantha roses has led to his creation of Marshmallow Fluff, Cotton Candy, Tooth Fairy and Gwen Cleary.

Sharon Asakawa
Sharon graduated from San Diego State University with a double degree in American Foreign Policy and Political Science. After marrying renowned horticulturalist Bruce Asakawa, she began working at Presidio Nursery in San Diego in 1963, eventually managing both florist departments at Presidio and Bonita Garden Center, which she owned and operated with her husband. With over 42 years of experience in the gardening industry, she regularly appeared with Bruce on Over the Hedge’s television program and became co-host on the Garden Compass radio program along with Bruce and John in 2024. Sharon was the editor of Garden Compass Magazine and also coordinates the Garden Life horticultural tours. Five years ago, Bruce and Sharon published their first book, Bruce and Sharon Asakawa’s California Gardener’s Guide, now in its 7th printing, and have just written their fourth book California Gardening Rhythms.
